Elroy Thompson

Elroy “Moe” Thompson, 85, passed into glory April 15 at his home in Whitefish with his family at his side. Moe was born in Detroit on Sept. 19, 1926 to William and Grace Thompson and he grew up in Stanton, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Thompson and his brother Bill Thompson.

Moe enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and honorably served his country in the South Pacific during World War II. After being discharged in 1946 he traveled to Whitefish where he fell in love and married the love of his life, Evelyn, in 1948. He began working for the railroad and has always treasured the camaraderie of his fellow rails.

He loved being outdoors camping, fishing and caring for his lawn and garden. He always loved baseball and delighted in watching games from Little League to Major League Baseball. Moe was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Whitefish and his church family was very important to him.

Moe is survived by his brother, Robert Thompson of San Diego, and his children, Julia McCallie of Denver, Marcia and husband Den Foy of Missoula, Patricia and husband Bob Kobylensky of Liberty Lake, Wash., and Brian and wife Tami Thompson of Vancouver, Wash. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Scott, McCallie, Curtis, Foy, Nicholas, Paul, and Brittany. Moe is also survived by the Wram family who he loved dearly.

A memorial service honoring the life of Moe was held April 21 at Christ Lutheran Church in Whitefish. A memorial fund has been established at Christ Lutheran Church in memory of Moe.
