Garage sale
The 14th annual Columbia Falls Chamber of Commerce garage sale will take place at the former Klean Kars on the U.S. 2 strip on Friday, Sept. 30, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 1, from 8 a.m. to noon.
Pick-up service is available for donated goods; No clothing. Drop off items Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. For more information, call Carol Pike at 892-2072 or e-mail cpike@centurytel.net.
Smorgasbord
Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 401 Seventh Street West,, in Columbia Falls, will host a Scandinavian Smorgasbord on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. with turkey and dressing, meat balls, mashed potatoes with gravy, baked beans, salads, lefse, and Scandinavian treats. Cost is $10 adults, $4 children 7-12, $2 children 3-6 and free for children under three.
Energy talk
The Flathead for a New Energy Economy Project will present a report on its findings at Flathead Valley Community College's Arts & Technology Building on Thursday, Oct. 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
The document is the result of a three-year collaborative exploration that showcases success stories of local businesses, governments and homeowners who realized significant cost savings, energy independence or job and new business creation as a result of emerging energy opportunities in the Flathead.
New energy "pioneers" featured in the report will also be on hand.
Pet blessing
A St. Francis Day Blessing of the Pets will take place at the All Saints Episcopal Church, on Conn Road, off Highway 40 between Whitefish and Columbia Falls, on Saturday, Oct. 1, at noon. Pets must be on leashes or in cages.
Saddle Club
The Rocky Mountain Riders Saddle Club of Columbia Falls will hold their year end high points award and potluck banquet at the club house on U.S. 2 on Sunday, Oct. 9, beginning at 1 p.m.
Awards will be presented for the Nervous Novice Show, the Nervous Novice Games and Rocky Mountain Riders' house awards. Raffle tickets will be sold for a matching leather headstall, breastcollar and spur straps.
The saddle club had a great year and thanks its 2011 sponsors.
Flu shots
The Flathead City-County Health Department will not hold a mass flu shot clinic at the fairgrounds this year.
Flu shots are available at the department's offices on First Ave. West in Kalispell on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Locally, a flu shot clinic will be held at the Montana Veterans Home on Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. Flu shots cost $25. No children will be turned away for inability to pay. Nobody needs an appointment.
