Boys soccer earns two shutouts

Whitefish made a bold statement on the

pitch last week with back-to-back conference shutouts. The Bulldogs

soccer team romped at home over Bigfork 9-0 led by a pair of hat

tricks from Sam Donaldson and Curran Edland, then took care of the

Loggers in a 4-0 win at Libby.

Against Bigfork, Donaldson opened the

flood gates in the 25th minute when he hit the net on a sliding

kick. The Dogs would go on to score three more goals in the final

two minutes before halftime.

Donaldson connected in the 38th minute

after a beautiful pass from Joseph Perry, and Curran Edland hit

twice in extra time.

Beiser each tallied a score in the second half.

At Libby, Beiser scored twice in the

first half to help Whitefish seize control against the defending

Class A state champions. Mark Stormes and Donaldson each added

goals in the second half.

“It’s really tough to get a good result

in Libby,” Whitefish coach O’Brien Byrd said. “They always pull a

good crowd and they play on a tighter football field. But we were

able to put it to them 4-0 and that was a fair result.”

Byrd credited the team for finishing

their chances on goal and for improved defense. He noted Stormes

play off the bench.

“He was an instant impact and changed

the game,” Byrd said. “Right away he was making plays.”
