You didn't hear it from me, but I think it's spring

I am probably going to take a lot of heat for the topic of my column this week, but here goes — I think spring is here.

I have likely jinxed us all for using the “s” word, and by the time this issue hits newsstands and arrives in mailboxes there will probably be six inches of snow on the ground. So I’ll just apologize in advance.

It’s been a long, cold, snowy winter though, so I know I am not alone in my celebration of the arrival of the warmer months.

However, in Bigfork the seasons are not just about the temperature. The sites and sounds of Bigfork are telling me that it is spring.

Every morning and every night I can hear the Swan River roaring from outside my house in town, which is something I haven’t noticed since last summer.

Another summer memory was rekindled over the weekend when I attended the opening night of the Bigfork Summer Playhouse.

Regardless of our fear that winter might not be truly over, or that we may end up with another cold and wet summer like last year, all the signs are pointing to the fact that it is indeed time to get excited about spring and summer.

There are so many more hours of daylight than there were just a few weeks ago, and there are so many more fundraisers to go to than there were just a few weeks ago. With the brighter days and fuller social calendars of course comes the advent of seeing more of our friends and neighbors out.

So here is to the sunny months ahead, and all of the festivities we have to look forward to. I’m going to go get my snow tires off now, and hope that I didn’t just set us all back three months into cold winter weather.
