Twins putting up big numbers

The Twins were playing with the wind at

their backs last week as they grabbed four wins in five games at

home. Using their offensive power, Glacier (8-6) averaged more than

11 runs a game in that stretch.

“I hoped for this kind of offense this

year,” Glacier coach Lindsay Fansler said. “It’s been nice and I

hope we can keep it up.”

Glacier easily took down Libby on May

11 in a 18-6 victory behind steady pitching from Devyn Rocker and

the big bats in the lineup.

Cody Elek got it going in the second

when he tagged a 2-RBI liner down the right field line to put

Glacier up 5-0. In the fourth, Elek hit another deep liner that hit

off the top of the center field wall for a double. Chris King

knocked an RBI single to bring Elek home.

Later in the inning, Cody Hill hit a

2-RBI single to make it 12-0, and King crushed a 3-run homer to

left field. The game was called in the seventh due to the mercy

rule.

Glacier bagged two wins at 12-9 and

15-10 in their sweep of Belgrade on May 14. Elek hit a grand slam

in the second game of the doubleheader, while Geoff Streeter and

Hill both had four hits each in the series.

Sunday, the Twins fought back in a

nightcap against Helena with a 10-9 win. Streeter tallied two

homers to lead the charge.

“Cody and Geoff both had a big week for

us,” Fansler said.

The coach is more than satisfied with

Glacier’s prowess at the plate and says it will get even better if

and when third baseman Carl Talsma comes back from an injury.

“We feel like we’re settled in on

offense,” Fansler said.

He said the pitching rotation is doing

a good job of throwing strikes and keeping the team in games, but

Fansler wants to see some improvement in the field.

“Hopefully the pitching will be

consistent,” Fansler said, “but to be successful we have to have

tight defense.”

Glacier plays in the Canadian Days

tourney in Kalispell this weekend in a final tune up before the

conference schedule kicks in.
