Stadium fundraising kicks off

Glacier Twins American Legion Baseball

is kicking off a capital campaign to rebuild the stadium at

Memorial Field.

The original stadium was built in 1930

and condemned and leveled in 2002. Since then, the Glacier Twins

organization has been working toward a new stadium and raising

funding.

The original stadium stood as a

landmark structure, playing host to many games and events. The

vision for the new stadium is intended to encompass all the

Memorial Field nostalgia and more.

A major stadium within walking distance

of downtown Whitefish could host not just baseball games but

concerts, reunions, outdoor theater, public meetings, conventions

and graduation events.

As planned, the new facility will be

ADA-accessible and provide seating for 900-1,000 people. Major

features will include modern rest rooms, a concession stand, locker

rooms and office space.

Preliminary construction began in 2010.

The foundation, support columns, a roof and a backstop have been

completed. The goal is to finish the bleachers this spring if

funding is secured. The campaign goal is to raise $1.25 million.

About $264,000 has already been raised.
