The Flathead National Forest is urging visitors to use caution when traveling on Forest roads or trails, especially near streams. Saturated soils and recent moisture have limited access to locations and created some road and trail damage across the forest.

The East-side Hungry Horse Reservoir Road, Forest Road No. 38, is open. The West-side Hungry Horse Reservoir Road, Forest Road No. 895, will be closed from the Hungry Horse Dam to approximately the Lid Creek Campground beginning June 6 to continue re-paving work on the first 11 miles of the road. The road will be closed throughout the summer. Access to locations along the west side of the reservoir south of Lid Creek will be via the East-side Hungry Horse Reservoir Road. During the re-paving work, sites within the first 11 miles, including Doris Creek Boat Launch, Doris Creek Campground, Lost Johnny Point Campground, Lost Johnny Camp Campground and Lid Creek Campground, will only be accessible by water, and services at each site will not be available.

The re-paving project includes replacing the existing pavement, for about 11 miles in length, along with replacing culverts, building retaining walls and road substructure repair.

Due to the low water level of the Hungry Horse Reservoir, the only boat launch available is at Abbott Bay on the east side of the reservoir. Travelers are reminded to drive with caution as there will be increased truck traffic around the reservoir.
