The Flathead National Forest has announced deadlines for appeals or comments on two timber projects on the Hungry Horse Ranger District.

A decision has been made to go ahead with the Soldier Addition II Project, located on the west side of the Hungry Horse Reservoir and south along the South Fork of the Flathead River, between Sullivan and Bunker creeks.

The project calls for 1,128 acres of timber harvesting, 823 acres of thinning, 1,333 acres of prescribed burning, and hazardous fuel reduction on one acre around the Stony Hill electronic site.

Appeals should be mailed to USDA Forest Service, Appeals Deciding Officer, 200 East Broadway, Missoula MT 59807 or e-mailed to appeals-northern-regional-office@fs.fed.us. The deadline is Feb. 5, 2012.

The Flathead Forest is also seeking comments for its proposed Granite Lodgepole Pine Project, a timber harvest project on 99 acres in the Granite Creek drainage near Marias Pass.

Comments can be mailed to Hungry Horse District Ranger, P.O. Box 190340, Hungry Horse MT 59919 or e-mailed to comments-northern-flathead-hungry-horse-glacier-view@fs.fed.us. The deadline is Jan. 21, 2012.
