It's the no-brainer X-mas list for the outdoorsman

For three decades, Fishfull Thinking has offered gift suggestions for the outdoorsies on your Christmas list. This year I got so self-absorbed in recent fishing trips, I forgot.

• Fishing license. A no-brainer. Best value in America. Give Montana fishing licenses to your wife, kids, wife's kids, best friends, anyone with whom you'd like to spend outdoor time next summer.

• Digital camera. Doesn't have to be a "bells-and-whistles" model, just something to record all the wonderful times they'll have fishing next year.

• YakTrax. Those springy things you stretch over the bottom of shoes and boots to prevent slipping on ice. They're not just for ice fishermen anymore.

• Compact binoculars. Don't have to spend a fortune on these. Just good enough to be stored in the car for getting better looks at eagles and bears and sheep and goats and...

• Neoprene rifle sling. For the big-game hunter. Take it from someone with well-used shoulders, soft slings will add years to the hunting life.

• Flashlight. No one ever has enough flashlights. Give Mag-Lites to the people you really like.

• Multi-function pliers. For purse, pocket or vehicle.

• Inflatable suspender-type life vest. Perfect for the elderly ice fisherman on your list.
