Animal shelter

| December 7, 2011 7:45 AM

As we quickly approach the season of giving, I believe it is important to remember those who don't have a voice and are in need.

The Flathead County Animal Shelter is again at capacity regarding its dog and cat census. While this may seem like a repeat of old news, the shelter is at capacity in part due to taking in dogs and cats from recent abuse/neglect cases.

Due to the poor physical conditions that most of these abuse/neglect animals are in, they require even more time and attention from an already stretched shelter staff and shelter resources.

To help provide the necessary space to care for these unfortunate animals, the shelter is in need of adopting and fostering its adoptable dogs and cats. Additionally, the shelter is always in need of volunteer support to help these homeless pets receive the attention, exercise and socialization they continue to need.

Donations of dog beds, old blankets, dog and cat toys, in addition to monetary donations are always appreciated. Many wonderful adoptable dogs and cats of different breeds, ages and sizes are currently available at the Flathead County Animal Shelter.

To help promote adoptions, the shelter currently has reduced adoption fees for Labrador retrievers and senior pets. Please consider opening your heart and home to a homeless pet over this holiday season.
