Fastpitch team looks for first win

The Lady Bulldogs fastpitch team

continues to search for their first win after dropping games last

week to Class AA Flathead and Northwest A foe Libby.

The ‘Dogs fell 16-6 in five innings at

Flathead on Friday after allowing nine runs in the first inning off

a single hit. Whitefish’s pitchers hit three batters and tossed

nine walks in the frame to bury their chances early.

“We can’t start a game off like that,”

Whitefish coach Alan Compton said.

Whitefish settled down and made a game

out of it for the next four innings and managed to out-hit the

Bravettes in the loss. They put up six runs in the fourth off two

hits, including a double by Baylee Tveidt and a double from Emily

Stiver.

“They kept working and we managed to

score some runs,” Compton said.

At Libby on Saturday, Whitefish was in

it throughout, but couldn’t get the timely hits to push base

runners across. They fell 7-3 in seven innings.

“We hit it well, but we left too many

runners on base,” Compton said. “We have to get more girls

hitting.”

The coach commended Stiver’s play from

last week, noting her ability to get hits with runners in

position.

“I’m proud of her,” Compton said. “I

think she’s showing a lot more confidence.”

Defensively and on the mound, Compton

said the team was much better.

“We’re getting closer,” he said. “It’ll

come around.”

Whitefish faces Polson this Thursday as

they look to revenge a 46-0 shutout earlier this month. The

pitching slot is still undecided with both Emma Baldonado and

Baylee Tveidt taking turns on the mound. It will be up to them to

keep the ‘Dogs close against Polson.

“We can’t walk batters if we want to

have a chance,” Compton said.

The team will focus on hitting drills

this week in practice.

“We’ll be practicing small ball, and

doing whatever we can to move runners.”
