Construction abomination

While it may a good idea to fix the cracks in our roads, the result of recent work on U.S. 93 on the south end of Whitefish is an abomination. First, they route out the cracks, then they spray some kind of rubber slurry into the cracks and finish it off by rolling toilet paper on top. That's right, toilet paper, which apparently serves as some sort of absorbent seal.

Unfortunately, as I am sure anyone who has been on the road noticed, there are now huge amounts of toilet-paper scraps lining the grass and shrubbery along the highway. This is outrageous. If any of us were to throw a single piece of paper on the ground, we would be hit with big fines. Yet, this construction project has littered all over our town and so far has shown no effort to clean up after themselves. To top it off, the overall quality of the work is shabby at best, and the rubber is splattered all about making the road much rougher than before.

I have called the MDT to express my displeasure with this work and about the unsightly trash left behind and was told, "They were hoping for rain, and then it would be gone."

That's quite a sophisticated mitigation plan they have there. Unbelievable.
