Lady harriers win state title; boys 2nd

The Whitefish girls cross country team earned their fourth-consecutive Class A state title Saturday at Bill Roberts Colf Course in Helena. The team earned 80 points to edge Fergus by eight points.

Jessica Sagen and Carly Schwickert led the team with fifth- and sixth-place runs, both in a time of 19:33. Stella Holt took 11th place, Jackie Cassidy grabbed 13th, and Bailey Eaton finished in 43rd place, dramatically crawling across the finishline after she collapsed in the home stretch.

The boys, meanwhile, earned their best finish is school history. The Bulldogs scored 124 points, second behind only Corvallis.

Nathan Knox led the 'Dogs with his 12th-place run of 17:05. Fischer Gangemi was 13th with a 17:06 and Mathias Komarek was 19th in 17:22.
