Doughnut self-rule

I am a resident of the “doughnut” area. Regulation without representation is at the heart of the long-standing doughnut controversy. The city-county doughnut committee has labored for several months to reshape the interlocal agreement between the city of Whitefish and Flathead County. Despite their prodigious efforts, I don’t think their current approved draft is sufficient.

The present concept will eliminate the doughnut lawsuit, but it still does not take care of the central problem — providing adequate representation for we people of the doughnut.

What is wrong with self-rule? I firmly believe if a vote of the doughnut residents were allowed, we doughnut residents would come down strongly in favor of self-rule. We would not come down in favor of city rule, county rule or handing the ball back and forth between the city and the county.
