Whitefish senior Jack Steele was named

to the Great Falls Tribune annual Super-State boys team for his

performance on the soccer field this fall. Steele was one of three

Class A players to earn the award, including Cree Maloney, of

Libby, and Mickey Wall, of Billings Central. Only 12 players

statewide are honored each fall.

The Tribune called Steele “a solid

playmaker and goal scorer. Steele helped the Bulldogs advance to

the state tournament. He finished as the No. 3 scorer in Class A,

with 10 goals and seven assists.”

“Jack has incredible endurance, an

engine that won’t quit,” Whitefish coach O’Brien Byrd said.

The newspaper noted that Steele is an

“outstanding” cross-country skier who has “fared well in numerous

events for the Glacier Nordic Ski Team in recent years.”

The Whitefish girls soccer team was

shut out of this year’s Super-State team despite making the

championship match and featuring two of the top scorers in the

state. More than half of the players on the list were from

Billings-area schools, including two from Class A champion Billings

Central.
