A fire consumed a home on Wood Ridge Drive Friday night about a half mile from the Silver Bullet Bar. The cause is yet unknown.

Bad Rock Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dan Ellman said the fire began in the attic. By the time the fire trucks arrived, the blaze was significant.

“The smoke was pouring out of the eaves,” Ellman said.

The fire breached the roof and the tar paper and shingles quickly went up as the blaze worked its way to either sides of the roof. The roof fell in and fire destroyed the main level of the home and part of the basement. Ellman said it is likely the home is a total loss.

The two people in the house at the time of the fire escaped uninjured. The people had two cats, one of which was found alive under a stairway. The other has not turned up yet.

Columbia Falls, Creston and Hungry Horse fire departments responded to the call. Bad Rock was the first on scene at 9:45 p.m. and the last to leave Saturday morning at about 8 a.m. More than 30 firefighters from the four departments worked to contain the blaze.

“It was a very long night,” Ellman said. “I’d truly like to thank Columbia Falls, Creston and Hungry Horse for their excellent help in getting the building extinguished.”
