Skybridge again
The city council should be ashamed of the manner in which they have failed to deal with Mr. Averill and his singlewide in the sky. If indeed the city has no recourse, the powers that be in the Planning Department and Architectural Review Committee should be removed for incompetency.
The design flaws of this abomination are recognizable to a first-year drafting student, and everyone using Wisconsin Avenue must live with it. It puzzles me that the ARC can be so concerned about the garage doors of a duplex on some obscure residential street, while allowing this eyesore over Wisconsin Avenue.
The Averills must be getting a hearty laugh at our inept government officials. First, they force the county to pay a good portion of the infrastructure costs of their development near Somers, and now they have the city of Whitefish over a barrel.
If the city cannot force the redesign of the overpass on the Averills, at least they should contribute money to a pleasing redesign in a cooperative effort. But oh, yes, the city has serious budget shortfalls. In large part due to the pride and arrogance of the previous planning director.
I agree with Jenny Palmer's comment last week. Why is the city council so willing to grill Mrs. Spoonovers over a small mural and give Mr. Averill a pass on this monstrosity? Now it appears city officials and council are all ducking and pointing fingers. Someone down there needs to stand up and be accountable for this.
