Climate crisis

I have lived in beautiful Whitefish, Montana, for 16 years. I have grown up in a house that is accessed by dirt roads and is surrounded by trees. My parents have instilled a love of nature and the incredible landscape around me since I was very young.

I am now in my junior year at Whitefish High School and continue to love the environment I live in. As a member of Whitefish High School's Environmental Club, I am often informed of legislation created in order to try to restore and preserve the health of the world we live in.

Recently, a major bipartisan proposal that involved clean energy was to be introduced to the U.S. Senate. However, this proposal never made it to the Senate due to "partisan bickering and political posturing." Our senators need to be encouraged to bring this proposal back into action.

Sens. John Kerry, Lindsey Graham and Joe Lieberman have worked extensively on this proposal, which would address the climate crisis, our addiction to oil and the future of our economy. Greater support is needed in order to pass a comprehensive bill this year.

The other members of Environmental Club have already done their part by calling our senators and expressing support for the climate and for the development of clean energy. We are asking for those who are also in support of such things to spend a few minutes on the phone with our representatives in Washington expressing their concern.
