Youth show heart through actions

Over the past several weeks, I've been thoroughly impressed with the attitudes of Bigfork's youth who, with smiles on their faces, have taken an extra step to show support for members of their community and to lend a helping hand.

A group of kindergartners from Bigfork Elementary School has been bringing joy and friendship to their elders at the Lake View Care Center by regular visits throughout the year, including a recent dance performance. Their third-grade schoolmates raised $800 for the Bigfork Food Pantry.

Students of all grades at Swan River School walked for the afternoon Friday to help raise money for a local bike path project that will benefit a wide range of Village residents.

And Bigfork High School students demonstrated their maturity and heart through support of their classmate Chris Driver, whom they elected prom king 'see A2).

All of these instances, and more throughout the year, have shown Bigfork's kids to be compassionate and thoughtful — traits that will continue to serve the community well as its youth grow up to become its leaders.

Their parents, and their teachers, should be proud.
