Williams burns up the track at A.R.M.

Derrick Williams had a great day with wins in the 800 and 1,600 meter races to help lead the Columbia Falls boys track team to a victory at the Whitefish A.R.M. Invitational Saturday, edging Glacier High 99-92.

Williams had a time of 2:03.56 in the 800 and a 4:38 in the 1,600. He also ran the last leg of the boys' 400 relay, where the Cats took second behind Whitefish. Williams also took third in the 400 meter with a time of 52.27.

The Cats also had solid performances from Shawn Whitman who was second in the 800 and 1600 meters and Justin Whitman nipped Ryan Humphrey of Thompson Falls for second in the 3200 meters. Patric Jessat was third in the 800 meters to make it a one-two-three finish for the boys.

Nate Thompson was second in the triple jump with a leap of 42-53/3.

The girls took fifth place. Jinise Osborne was third in the 3,200 meters and fifth in the 1,600. Kelsey DeWit was second in the high jump with a leap of 5-0. Jessie Gist was third in the pole vault with a jump of 9-0.

The weather was at times, miserable with driving rain and wind followed by sunshine. Despite the weather, all the events were completed.

The team travels to the Archie Roe meet in Kalispell this Saturday.
