A Happy Trails party for city attorney John Phelps will take place at the Grouse Mountain Lodge Glacier Foyer and deck on Thursday, July 1, from 5-7 p.m. There will be light snacks, cake and a no-host bar. Phelps served as city attorney for about 14 years.
A fundraiser event to raise money to complete the Ewam Garden of 1,000 Buddhas in Arlee will take place at The Green Tea House on Thursday, July 1 (today), from 6 to 9 p.m. with a silent auction that includes art, spa packages, get-aways, body care, flight lessons, coaching and a private chef. A suggested $10 donation will be accepted at the door. A presentation on the peace garden will take place at 6:30 p.m. When it’s completed, tentatively in fall 2011, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will come to bless the garden. Stephen Isley Jewelry will feature the work of Bigfork artist Sandra Licence during First Thursday Gallery Nights on Thursday, July 1, from 6-9 p.m. Descended from a long line of well-known European painters, Licence uses her heritage as well as her Montana surroundings as inspiration for the rugged and stylistic bison and horse paintings she’s best known for. She gained critical art experience while employed at Los Angeles County Museum of Art, ranging from old masters to modern and contemporary painters. Her paintings can be found in galleries and private collections throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Whitefish Theatre Company will present “Go, Dog. Go!,” a musical adaptation of the book by P. D. Eastman, at the O’Shaughnessy on Friday, July 2, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Students aged 10-16 who attended a two-week Musical Theatre Camp directed by April Vogel will perform in the musical version of the popular children’s book. The 3 p.m. performance is free. The 7 p.m. performance is part of the “Unveiling of the Animals” public reception for Mission Pawsible, which begins at 6 p.m. Tickets for this event are $5, with light appetizers and a cash bar. A Northwest tour celebrating the life and music of Norton Buffalo will come to the Eagles Hall, on U.S. 93 South in Kalispell, on Friday, July 2, at 8 p.m. featuring Norton’s band The Knockouts, special guests including a personal presentation by Steve Miller, buffalo burgers and refreshments. The Shrine Circus will present two performances at the Flathead County Fairgrounds on Friday, July 2, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Flathead Shrine Club, Algeria Shriners of Montana. Last year, 100 percent of funds from the circus were used to pay for transport Flathead Children to Shrine Hospitals. Tickets are $9 adults, $4 children and $5 seniors over-65.
