Terry Westphal

Terry Robert Westphal, 64, died at home on July 7, 2010.

Born April 18, 1946, in Detroit Lakes, Minn., Terry earned many certificates and diplomas in the fields of aviation, supervision and truck driving. He joined the Air force in 1963 and worked at Columbia Falls Aluminum Co. as a maintenance electrician.

Later, Terry worked for Gulfstream Aerospace as a service mechanic. He enjoyed flying his airplane for many years. Terry also enjoyed activities such as auto restoration, being a member of the Glacier Street Rod car club, bartering, antique collecting (marbles), recreation and talking in general.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Idella Jo Westphal.

Terry is survived by wife Alma Westphal, of Columbia Falls; children Brian Westphal, of Whitefish, Michael Westphal, of Hortonville, Wis., Freda Pomeroy, of Kalispell, Celena Thiel, of Kalispell, and Jason Pomeroy, of Lewistown; grandchildren Grace Westphal of Hortonville, Wis., and LeeAsa Pomeroy, Jacob Pomeroy, of Kalispell; parents William and Theresa LaValley, of Columbia Falls; aunts and uncles Paul Hillstead Sr., of Newport, Wash., and Tom and Dixie LaValley, of Columbia Falls; brothers and sisters Raymond Westphal and wife Mercy, of Grapevine, Texas, Calvin Westphal and wife Debbie, and Kathy Loftis and husband Marvin, all of Kalispell, and Mark LaValley and wife, of Choteau; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held July 17, 2010, at Marantette Park, with Pastor Creed Westphal officiating.

Norma Jean Hoffman

Norma Jean (Nori) Olson Hoffman passed away on June 13, 2010.

Nori was born in Chicago and lived many places before she and Art Houlihan discovered Whitefish sometime in the early 1990s.

They built their "log cabin" on Swift Creek at the head of Whitefish Lake and settled in to an exciting life in the mountains, where each day found them wind surfing, hiking, skiing, cycling, golfing, playing tennis or taking a horseback trip into the "Bob."

Over the past several years, they split their time between Florida and Maine and trips to exotic destinations all over the world. Nori delighted in visits to her children, Jan, Lori and Harry and their families. She had two granddaughters, three grandsons and one great granddaughter.

Nori was a beautiful, funny, spontaneous friend who laughed and sang in her sleep. She was a harbinger of goodness and fun and during her years in Whitefish she gathered many friends who will honor her with a "Nori Day" on her birthday, July 17.

Cycling friends will gather in Whitefish at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Edgewood Place on Saturday, July 17, at 10 a.m. for a bike ride to Meadow Lake Golf Course for lunch.

A potluck picnic will take place in Whitefish at Sun Crest Beach, on Lacy Lane just off Wisconsin Avenue near Mountain Harbor, on Saturday, July 17, at 7:00 p.m. to share Nori stories and sing songs around the campfire. For more information, call 862-1377 or 862-3675.

Nori was a hospice volunteer who cared deeply for her clients, and it was fitting that hospice served her during her illness. Any donations to hospice would be welcome.

Adelyn Luther

Adelyn Lois Luther, 90, a resident of Bigfork and Singer Island, Fla., passed away of natural causes on June 23, 2010, in Kalispell.

Adelyn was born in Chicago on June 3, 1920, the daughter of Ira and Mary (Bransky) Coplin. She spent the majority of her life in Minneapolis.

In October 1940, she married Maurice Gordon and they had two children, Richard Dick and Patti. She was widowed in 1967 and married Charles Luther in 1970.

Adelyn lived life to the fullest and will be remembered as a savvy businesswoman, philanthropist and world traveler. A woman of independence, confidence and strong will, Adelyn worked hard in her life and showed great pride in the success of the business, Cardinal Glass Industries, started by her husband Maurice Gordon. She remained chairman of the board of Cardinal Glass until her death.

In her later years, she turned her focus toward philanthropy, supporting medical research at the Mayo Clinic and Duke University Medical Center.

Adelyn loved to laugh, was always looking for a good joke and was especially gifted at making a short story long. With an enduring zest for life, she particularly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandson in Montana and Hawaii.

She is survived by her children Dick Gordon and Cheryl Watkins, of Whitefish, and Patti Pastor and Joe, of Bigfork; stepson Mark Luther, of Minneapolis; granddaughters Monica Pastor, of Whitefish, Alicia Pastor Hollis and Daniel, of Sun Valley, Idaho, and Greer Gordon, of Whitefish; and great grandson Teague McDonald, of Whitefish.

Gary Krause

Gary Preston Krause, 64, of Austin, Texas, died June 13, 2010, with family and friends close in his heart. He was a loving son, father, husband and brother, whose insight into the detail of the world will be greatly missed.

The Krause family lived in Buda, Texas, for a number of years. Gary attended school there until the family's move in 1964.

Gary loved to travel and see new country. He loved all things mechanical from antique tractors to the latest military vehicles. Gary took great pride in the successes of those he loved. Those who go on without him will remember him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father Preston Krause and sister Catherine Bachus.

He is survived by his mother Leta Krause, of Austin; wife Gail Krause, of Austin; sister Jane Hallgren and husband Otto, of Whitefish; daughter Tanya Randall and husband Matt, of Hempstead, Texas; son Adam Cody and wife Angela, of Pflugerville, Texas; daughter Brandi Krause, of Flatonia, Texas; daughter Cheyenne Krause, of Austin; stepson Bryan Higginbotham, of Austin; and four grandchildren.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his name be sent to a charity of choice.
