Editor's note: The following was written for a school essay. The Seely family lived in Olney from 1992 to 2000.

One of the most unique towns I have ever visited is a placed called Whitefish. Whitefish is a small town located in Northwest Montana. It is a town of only a few thousand people, but yet there is so much life.

For example, the town's set-up is similar to the way towns were in the 1800s. Most of the stores are connected in long rows down the center of town. Starting at on one end of the row is the Bulldog Saloon, then down at the other end you will find the Whitefish Pottery Store. All of the diversity and history in such a small area makes it an attraction to many.

The second thing that makes the town so memorable is the beautiful scenery. For instance, there are mountains in every direction you look. Some of them are just small foothills, then some are so high that you can almost reach out and grab the stars.

During the winter months, this town is frosted in snow, so skiing is also a great adventure. There is a swimming spot during the summer that is very enjoyable called Whitefish Lake. Since there is no real beaches in this national forest location, this lake is the closest thing to a beach. However the residents and tourists definitely don't mind, because it is still one of the most beautiful towns most people have ever seen, no matter what the season is.

Finally, the last thing that makes this town so dear to me is the wildlife. This town is known for their moose statues, such as the pelican statues we have located in downtown Pensacola. While driving down the road, it would not be abnormal to see a moose statue or a real moose. Besides moose, you will also spot bears and mountain lions. There are even road signs with pictures of bears to fair warn all tourists of there residency near town.

Since we lived an hour away from Whitefish, further into the wilderness, my mom has a few stories of her own to tell about animal encounters. The main one being the time she was washing dishes and a moose was staring at her through the kitchen window.
