Freestyle team strong at rail jam

| January 7, 2010 11:00 PM

Whitefish Mountain Resort's Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Team took home wins in four of eight divisions at last week's New Year's Eve Rockin' Rail Jam, the team's first event of the season.

The fifth annual jam featured rails and boxes set up on the slopes above Ed and Mully's Lounge. A record 65 registered contestants did their best to impress judges with style and skill in two half-hour jam sessions, one each for snowboarders and skiers.

The freestyle team, coming off an intensive four-day holiday training camp, produced four first-place finishers, including Marley Rodwick, Ryan Heaverland, Parkin Costain and Braedon Ortt. Other winners were Irie Anderson, Alex Adams, Denise Allison and Todd Williamson.

The team's next local showing will be at the first event in the Night Riders Park Series. The double feature on Saturday, Jan. 29, will include a rail jam and a slopestyle competition.
