James Robert Grant

| August 26, 2010 11:00 PM

James (Jim) Robert Grant left earth for higher ground on July 26, 2010.

Jim was born June 6, 1961 in Kalispell, to Jim and Evelyn Grant. Jim lived throughout his childhood with his parents and sisters Donna, Debby, and Kathy in Hungry Horse.

After graduating from Columbia Falls High School, Jim went to work in the woods for various local logging operations as a sawyer; job skills he took with him when he moved to Forks, Wash., in the 1980s. Jim spent many happy years working in the woods until the summer of 2010 when he was proud to become a corrections officer with the Washington State Department of Corrections. Jim lived in Forks with his family until the time of his death.

From the earliest he loved life, especially in God's natural world — scouting, fishing, hunting and camping were just some of the activities he enjoyed and excelled at.

Though logging, horn hunting, and the great outdoors were loves of Jim's life, his children were his greatest joy and reason for being. Family, friends and strangers were always greeted with a smile and a joke. Laughter and humor where his only medicine.

Hardworking, kind, and generous; Jim's christian attitude always put others before himself. His contagious laughter, courage, and strength, have been a never ending blessing and an inspiration for all who knew him.

Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents and his wife, Brenda.

He leaves behind his children Marshal and Josie of Forks, Wash., and Jessica of Palmer, Alaska; his parents, Jim and Evelyn of Columbia Falls; sisters Donna and her husband Doug of Dale City, Va., Debby and her husband John of Duluth, Minn., Kathy and her husband Mark of Whitefish; niece Christina of Dale City, Va.; and special friends Eric and Lorrie of Forks, Wash., and Joe and Brenda of Hungry Horse. As well as many other wonderful friends and extended family.

Jim - Your life was a blessing from God, your memory a gift of joy…

You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.

A memorial service was held at the Forks Assembly of God Church on Aug. 7, 2010. Contributions can be made to a fund set up for Jim's children, Marshal and Josie Grant, at the Forks branch of Bank of America.
