Whitefish sprinters dominate at Libby

The Whitefish boys and girls track teams together grabbed seven first-place finishes Saturday at the Libby Invitational.

The Lady Bulldogs accumulated 109 points to take second place behind Polson. Columbia Falls was third with 55 points.

Amanda Foley put down two lightning-fast sprints, easily winning the 100-meter race and then taking second in the 200. She was barely edged at the line in the 200 by Polson's Breanne Kelley by two-tenths of a second. Her 100-meter time of 12.90 was half a second faster than second-place finisher Anna DiGiallonardo, of Polson.

The Lady 'Dogs' long-distance runners were strong, too.

Carly Schwickert cruised to a win in the 1,600. She finished with a 5:40.0, two seconds ahead of Libby's Nikola Falk. Also in the top-five were Jessica Sagen in fourth and Bailey Eaton in fifth.

Four Whitefish runners found the top-five in the 3,200, including Sagen in second place, Loni Hanson in third, Jackie Cassidy in fourth and Eaton in fifth. Sagen finished with a 12:38.24.

Away from the track, junior Olivia Nagler was strong in the field. She won the javelin with a 109-feet, two-inch toss, about six feet better than the second-place thrower. In the discus, Nagler grabbed second place with a 103-feet, eight-inch throw.

Anto Daoud was a double winner for the boys team, which finished third overall with 75 points. Columbia Falls took first with 139 points and Polson was second with 99.

Daoud edged Taylor Martinson of Columbia Falls with a photo finish in the 100-meter sprint. He crossed the line at 12.90, four-hundredths faster than Martinson.

In the 200, the senior had a little more breathing room at the finish. Daoud put down an impressive time of 23.56, more than half a second faster than teammate Iaian Camerson, who finished second with a 24.14.

Derek Crittenden, who has proven to be one of the top dogs in the league in the 110 hurdles, won again in Libby. He finished with a 16.40, while teammate John Joern was fourth at 17.35.

In discus, Nick O'Dell was competitive against a strong field, tossing the disc 127-feet, 1/2-inch to take fourth place.

Whitefish hosts the ARM meet this Saturday at 10 a.m.
