The Columbia Falls boys track team had some very nice performances at the Missoula Invitational last week. The boys won the 1,600 relay with Derrick Williams, Kaleb Johnson, Shawn Whitman and Patric Jessat.

Williams also took second in the 800 in two minutes flat and Whitman was fifth with a time of 2:02.90.

Dean Phillips took third in the 200 with a time of 23.30 and fifth in the 100 with a 11.65.

"Missoula is a tough meet with all of the AA schools," said coach Jamie Heinz. "I'm proud of our 4-by-4 team."

Heinz also said Williams' race in the 800 was "outstanding."

The boys took 11th as a team.

On the girls' side, Kesley DeWit took third in the high jump with a leap of 5-2.

"That puts her tied with the top Class A jumpers in the state," Heinz said.

But the Kats also have some bad news. Kayla DeWit is out for the season with a broken bone in her foot. The foot is in a cast. The injury happened during basketball season, but she just recently learned it was broken.

The team also sent athletes to the Bigfork Invitational. The boys' 1,600 relay team took fourth. Matt Hollo took third in the pole vault with a jump of 10-6.

On the girls' side, Ashli Fairbank was fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:07.30, third in the 800 with a time of 2:41; Alexas Young was sixth in the 3,200 with a 14:06 and Allie Lampman was sixth in the discus with a throw of 30-04.5.

The Cats traveled to Libby Tuesday for a dual meet and will go back to Libby Saturday for an invitational.
