DeWit takes fifth at Mission

The Columbia Falls High School golf teams opened their competitive season at the Ronan High School Invitational last Thursday at the Mission Mountain Golf Course. Wildkat senior Kelsey DeWit shot a solid 95 finishing in fifth place overall, while freshman Morgan Love's 108 landed her in 12th place. As a team, the Kats posted a score of 474 finishing 4th in the five-team field. Also competing for the Kats were junior Courtney Tamburelli (129) and freshman Maggie Panasuk (142).

"Though there were ten schools invited to this tournament, we were one of only five schools able to field a full girls' team," said coach Gene Marcille. "We're excited about Kelsey's start and about the efforts of our two freshmen in their first varsity competition."

On the boys' side of the tournament, the Wildcats posted a respectable team score of 339 to finish 5th in the ten-team field. Hamilton took top team honors at 301. Senior Tanner Lineberry fired a 79 on the par-72 course and finished 12th. Rounding out the scoring for the Cats were junior Jordan Mueller (85), sophomore Parker Johnson (87) junior Mike Cotton (88) and senior Ian Gordon (89).

"All of our boys posted scores below 90, which isn't too bad for our opener," according to Marcille. "As usual, our conference is probably the strongest in the state, which means we'll have to have steady improvement to be contenders at our divisional tournament."

CFHS hosts four tournaments over the next two weeks including two varsity events at Meadow Lake and two junior varsity tournaments at West Glacier.
