Verdella McCulloch

Verdella McCulloch, 100, died Oct. 22, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell.

Verdella was born March 3, 1909, in Ovid, Mich., to David and Cora Link. She moved from Michigan to Malta as a young child.

During the time she lived in the Flathead Valley, Verdella and her husband Al operated Art's Caf/Robertson's Restaurant in Whitefish, where she was known for her wonderful pies and pastries.

She and Al also operated restaurants in Kevin, Shelby, Hungry Horse, Kalispell and Glasgow. While living in Whitefish, she was Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and president of Toastmistress.

She was preceded in death by her three husbands, Al Robertson, Burnett Smith and Robert McCulloch.

She is survived by her children Dennis Robertson and wife Peg, of Surprise, Ariz., Arlen Madole and husband Jim, of Surprise, Ariz., David Robertson and wife Kathy, of Somers, and Kathy Tonkovich and husband Joe, of Medford, Ore.; and 10 grandchildren.

Internment was private.

Elaine Westman

Elaine Mary Westman, 80, died peacefully at home on Oct. 17, 2009, after an extended illness.

She was born Nov. 23, 1928, in Columbia Falls to Fred and Margarete Wood. She spent her early years in Columbia Falls and Whitefish and a number of years in Snohomish, Wash. She moved her family to the Methow Valley in 1967 and purchased a small farm.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her husband Ken at their home; children by a previous marriage, Cindy Putnam, of Gold Bar, Wash., Wendy Lundine, of Omak, Wash., Candy LaRoche, of East Wenatchee, Wash., and Jack Button, Jr. of Big Lake, Alaska; sister June Munski-Feenan, of Whitefish; adopted grandchildren Julie Westman, of New Orleans, Paula Westman, of Cle Elum, Wash., and Bill Westman, of Heron; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and nieces Shelly ToDot, Karen Stevens, Pam Wingate, Ginger Theissen, Darlene Benson and Nicolette Ward, of the Flathead Valley.

Betty Stone

Betty J. Stone, 70, of Whitefish, died Oct. 27, 2009, at Whitefish Care and Rehablilitation Center.

She was born Jan. 4, 1939, in Memphis, Tenn.

She resided in Whitefish for the past six years.

Survivors include her sons Darius Klinefelter, of North Las Vegas, Nev., and Goth Shank, of Whitefish.
