'Dogs serve up win over Ronan
Whitefish 3, Ronan 0
Molly Filipek knocked in 10 consecutive serves and came up with 17 digs on Sept. 24, as the Lady Bulldogs topped Ronan 3-0 at home in a Northern A volleyball match.
"Filipek served effectively," head coach Jackie Fuller said. "If we can get her off to a great start, as well as Olivia Nagler and Heather Bailey, we can do great things."
Whitefish dominated the entire match, winning 25-12, 25-8 and 25-9. They led by as many as 15 points in the first game and jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the final set.
"I felt the girls played really well, both on offense and defense," Fuller said. "We had a lot of flow and we played as a team."
Kaitlyn Wehrli scored 12 of the team's 25 kills and Jessica Slaybaugh passed 12 assists to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
Filipek served seven aces to lead the team.
Fuller said she was able to play a lot of underclassmen in the match.
"The younger kids stepped in and did a great job," she said. "It gave the team confidence that we can put anybody on floor and play as one unit."
Kills — Ronan 16 (Tailyr Irvine 5, Alice VanGunten 4, Chelsey Bourdon 4), Whitefish 25 (Kaitlyn Wehrli 12, Jessica Slaybaugh 3); Blocks — Ronan 0, Whitefish 5 (Heather Bailey 2, Olivia Nagler 1), Assists — Ronan 16 (Taylor Lynch 14), Whitefish 23 (Jessica Slaybaugh 12, Olivia Nagler 9), Digs — Ronan 11 (VanGunten), Whitefish 82 (Molly Filipek 17, Olivia Nagler 14); Aces — Ronan 1 (VanGunten), Whitefish 15 (Filipek 7, Nagler 3).
Whitefish 0, Polson 3
An athletic Polson team served up 17 aces and 42 kills to roll over the Lady Bulldogs on Sept. 26 as the Lady Pirates beat Whitefish for the second time this season.
The loss dropped Whitefish to 2-3 in league play.
"They took it to us," Fuller said. "If we don't click, it's tough to beat a good ball club like Polson."
The Lady Pirates took the match in three games, 25-16, 25-10 and 25-18, led by 14 kills and 18 digs from Nicole Davey and seven aces from Breanne Kelly.
The Lady Bulldogs were held to just one block in the match.
Fuller handed Polson a lot of credit for their win, saying the Lady Pirates have a great coaching staff and a bunch of athletes on their squad.
"We didn't come to play," Fuller said. "If we don't pass the ball, we can't do anything. We will be breaking it down with the hitters in practice."
Whitefish hosts Columbia Falls on Thursday in their homecoming match.
