Gimbel 'one of C.Falls' finest”

| November 26, 2009 11:00 PM

To the editor,

I'd like to express my heartfelt thanks to one of "Columbia Falls' Finest," Don Gimbel. Don very graciously and humbly had been devoting his time and skills in constructing and placing very nice and durable park benches at the Veterans Home, Veterans Drive, Columbia Falls Junior High School, Veterans Memorial walls, and other areas.

I asked Don if he would be willing to build one we could locate at the Veterans Memorial Wall so people could sit and view the names of the men and women of the armed services from the Columbia Falls area. This bench was in memory of the 10th Mountain Division (World War II Ski Troopers' who fought so bravely in the campaign in Italy and into Germany. Don charged only for the materials, and when it was completed, with the help of Floyd Grigg and John Gillespie, we got it installed.

Dedication ceremonies for the bench and new names added to the Memorial Wall were held on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. Special thanks to Bill Schulte, and Bill and Sherry Martindale for their hard work and dedication, and all past and present members of our armed forces for their sacrifices.

Jerry Reed
