BHS hosts basketball tryouts

Bigfork High School will hold tryouts for its boys and girls basketball teams starting Monday, Nov. 23.

The girls will start their tryouts at 3:30 p.m. in the high school gym and the boys will start at 6 p.m.

Anyone interested in playing BHS basketball must have a current physical and parent permission form completed and turned into school secretary Susie Hullett in the high school office prior to the start of tryouts. Students who already met these two requirements for fall sports this school year do not need to do so again to participate in basketball.

Coaches have been selected for this year's BHS teams and they have been hosting open gyms the past few weeks for interested players. Head Boys Basketball Coach Paul LaMott is bringing back Jason Hall, who will coach junior varsity team for the second year in a row.

Students who make both the girls and boys basketball team need to plan to attend the winter parent/player meeting with their guardian.

The meeting will focus on getting all required fees, forms and meetings completed before the beginning of the season. Parents will be given schedules and will meet with the activities director to review the activities book. Basketball coaches will also be in attendance to meet with parents and students participating in the sport. Coaches will indicate sport specific requirements, philosophy and goals.

Prior to the meeting, the BHS teams will participate in the annual Blue and White Scrimmage. The boys will start things off at 5 p.m. followed by the girls' scrimmage at approximately 5:45 p.m. The meeting portion of the evening will begin after the girls are finished.

The meeting date has yet to be determined. The meeting and scrimmage were originally scheduled for Dec. 4 and had then been moved to Dec. 5. Due to recently discovered scheduling conflicts, the BHS plans to pick a new date for the event.
