Relay for Life

I am proud of our community. As some of you might know, the Relay for Life, a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, was held at the Whitefish High School track on Friday, June 19. The event was a great success.

I wanted to thank all who attended, and all who donated. I was the chairperson for the games and activities. Who knew that musical chairs would be such great fun? We will definitely have that next year.

I did want to apologize for not being able to have all the events and activities that were listed on the program. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, we were unable to have some of the events. We will work hard that this will not happen next year.

I also wanted to thank all of the businesses that donated a gift for the event: Loula's Cafe, Glacier Cyclery, Quickee Sandwich Shop, Haines Drug, Sage and Cedar, Crystal Winters, Whitefish Pottery, Whitefish Gift and Gear, Imagination Station, The Village Shop, Amazing Crepes, La Hacienda, Stumptown Snowboards and Third Street Market.

Words can not describe how proud I am of our community. Thank you for all that you do.

Dog park

Speaking for the dogs of Whitefish, I would like to give a big shout out to the Whitefish Animal Group (WAG) committee and the city of Whitefish for making our first off-leash dog park a reality.

All your dedication and hard work created a beautiful spot where dogs can just enjoy being dogs for many generations to come.

Thanks also for honoring the very missed Hugh Rogers by naming this wonderful park in memory of him. Thanks so much.

Graduation

I wanted to give special recognition and thanks to the Whitefish School District staff who contributed to the graduation of the Class of 2009. I was overwhelmed with the sense of community that carried us through this celebration.

There are so many people that make a difference in the lives of our children. Without their commitment and dedication, this graduation experience would not be possible. It does take a whole community to raise a child, and I just wanted to say thanks.

I had tears in my eyes when Jane Shyrock said, "I have so enjoyed having your daughter in my class." What I wanted to say was, "Thank you for making a difference in my daughter's life."

Thank you to all the staff and parents and community members that give so generously of their time and talent to make a difference.
