Laker bats explode against frustrated Twins

| June 11, 2009 11:00 PM

The Kalispell Lakers scored eight runs against the Glacier Twins in an AA American Legion conference match-up at Memorial Field on June 3 before the Twins even swung a bat.

The Lakers' Toby Liechti clubbed a double into left field that scored two of Kalispell's eight runs in the first inning, and the Lakers defeated the Twins, 16-3.

The Lakers picked up the road victory in seven innings with the 10-run rule and hiked their record to 3-2 in conference and 14-7 overall.

Pat Hergesheimer started the flood of runs for Kalispell with a line-drive single between third base and shortstop that scored Ben Sansaver from second. After that Liechti stepped up and knocked in two more and the Lakers first eight batters reached base safely.

The worrisome inning continued and a frustrated Glacier Twins coach Bill Sapa pulled starter Kyle Knox off the mound and brought in Trevor Miller.

The Twins survived the first inning, and Miller was able to settle down the Lakers' offense until the fourth, when a pair of runs came in thanks again to Hergesheimer, 2-for-3, and Liechti, 2-for-5.

Chris King had an RBI double, and Wayde Martinson had two of the Twin's seven hits. The Twins dropped to 0-5 in conference.
