The Whitefish Review will celebrate publication of their fifth issue at 100 Central Avenue, the former Flanagan’s Central Station, on Friday, June 12, beginning at 7 p.m. The party will feature music by DJ Keishie, a chance to win a season ski pass to Whitefish Mountain Resort, and an opportunity to create a cattle marker mural with local artist Kelly Apgar.
The Glacier Institute will present a one-day Spring Wildflowers along the Rocky Mountain Front course on Friday, June 12. June is the ideal month to observe the blooms of the prairies and foothills. Program instructor Ellen Horowitz earned her bachelorís in resource recreation management from Oregon State University. She writes for regional and national publications. Flathead Audubon and Dan and Susannah Casey will lead an overnight camping and birdwatching trip to Tally Lake Campground on Friday and Saturday, June 12 and 13. The birders will focus on warbler identification, birding by ear and digi-scoping, as well as canoeing, hiking, volleyball and horseshoes. A camp site for large groups has been reserved at the lake. The Whitefish United Methodist Church will hold a car wash on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Mike’s Conoco. Cost is $5 per vehicle. All proceeds will benefit the church’s principal mortgage fund.
The Glacier Institute will present Orchids: Glacier’s Precious Beauties, a course featuring a variety of the Park’s 23 recorded species of orchids, on June 13 and June 20. Many of the Park’s orchids are threatened or endangered species. Course instructor Steve Wirt has been a forester and fire manager for more than 25 years. Kalispell's Hula School, Halau Ka Waikahe Lani Malie, will present its 16th annual hula show and celebration in the Glacier High School auditorium on Saturday, June 13, at 7 p.m. Hula master Kumu Juni Kalahikiola Romuar, of Sacramento, Calif., provides all choreography, cultural guidance and teaching to her 200 students.
