First Thursday Gallery Nights takes place on July 2 at galleries across downtown Whitefish. Jest Gallery, 305 East Second Street in Whitefish, will hold a reception for East Glacier-based artist Roger Rink and his recent work, ìBig Sky.î The Walking Man Frame Shop & Gallery will host an opening reception for Montana artist Peter Moore and his exhibit ìThe North Fork & Beyond." Stumptown Art Studio will hold an opening reception for artist Shannon Webster's exhibition of paintings called ìObservations.î

Stillwater Landing in Olney has lined up three days of music for the Fourth of July weekend. Four musicians will perform on Thursday, July 2 with Montana troubador Jack Gladstone, Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai, five-time Grammy award nominee percussionist and poet Will Clipman and cellist Lee Zimmerman. Singer-songwriter Jessica Kilroy will perform music from her new CD on Friday, July 3. Western Music Associations male performer of the year Dave Stamey will perform on Saturday, July 4. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Stillwater Landing is about 15 miles north of Whitefish on Lower Stillwater Lake.

The Middle Fork Quick Response Unit will hold their annual bake sale on Friday and Saturday, July 3-4, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the QRU building on U.S. Highway 2 near Essex. For more information, call 888-5607.

The annual city Fourth of July fireworks display will take place at City Beach at about 10 p.m. Free bus service is available from the O'Shaughnessy.

Stumptown Quilters will present their ninth quilt show in the Whitefish Middle School gym on July 4-5. The theme of this year’s show is “Equus,” and the raffle quilt is covered with galloping horses. The featured quilter is Mary Beth Montgomery, a charter member of the guild, which formed in 1992. Montgomery, who is 90 this year and started quilting in 1987, will display 11 quilts at the show. Her early quilts are all handmade and hand-quilted. The guild meets at Christ Lutheran Church on the second Saturday of each month and welcomes new members. Tuesday

The Flathead Shrine Club will bring the Jordon World Circus to the Flathead Fairgrounds in Kalispell with two performances on Friday, July 7, at 2 and 7 p.m. The international circus will feature all new acts. Ticket prices will remain the same ó $4 children under-12, $9 adults and $5 seniors.

Mandolin player and vocalist Sierra Hull will perform in the O'Shaughnessy with her band Highway 111 on July 7, beginning at 8 p.m., after the downtown farmers market. Hull has appeared on the Grand Ole Opry radio and television shows and shared the stage with bluegrass legends such as Alison Krauss, IIIrd Tyme Out, Sam Bush, Mountain Heart and Ricky Skaggs.
