LNPC reviews plan comments

The deadline for written comments on the Lakeside Neighborhood Plan draft revision, on Friday, June 19, brought numerous comments from Lakeside residents and property owners, which members of the Lakeside Neighborhood Plan Committee spent much of last week reviewing and responding to.

The committee received a total of 225 comments from 41 respondents, mostly indicating items that required minor corrections or clarification, and voicing general support of the plan, as well as the efforts of those who have volunteered their time to produce a detailed and informative revision.

"It was a good response," LNPC chairwoman Debbie Spaulding said. "They were all very good comments, and we were able to work quite a few of them into the document. There were a lot of comments in general support of the plan, as well."

Examples of the kinds of changes made to the document as a result of comments include a correction on how the community's decoy patrol car was purchased and a more thorough explanation about who covers wildland fires when they occur.

According to LNPC secretary and project manager Barb Miller, the only major change to have occurred was the inclusion of a new land use category that would cover Lakeside Elementary School and YWAM, since the two did not fit well with other designations. Miller said the change came in response to comments received by the committee.

"I would like to have seen more comments, but I was pleased with the comments of those people who wrote in," Miller said. "The vast majority of them were supportive of plan."

The LNPC held meetings last Monday and Tuesday so that committee members could review and discuss the comments together, as well as any changes they may have warranted.

The committee also updated the Lakeside Community Council during the council's June meeting, on Tuesday. Although that meeting occurred too late to be covered in this edition, the top agenda item called for a review the revisions made to the draft Lakeside Plan by the LNPC and a subsequent decision concerning whether to send the revised plan on to the County with a recommendation for adoption. Details of the meeting will be included in next week's edition.
