International hockey tourney comes to Ice Den on Feb. 6-8

Hockey fans and players are in for the largest local tournament of the season this weekend as the 2009 Whitefish International Hockey Tournament comes to the Stumptown Ice Den. There’s no charge for admission.

A total of nine men’s teams, including two Whitefish squads, will compete for the trophy. Besides Stumptown and Whitefish, teams will travel from Duluth, Minn., Bozeman-Big Sky, Fernie, B.C., Missoula, Dunlop, Manitoba, Sparwood, B.C., and Bawlf, Alberta.

The Whitefish No. 1 team will play against Fernie on Friday, Feb. 6, at 5 p.m. and against Dunlop at 9:30 p.m. On Saturday, they will play Sparwood at 1 p.m. and Missoula Express at 7 p.m.

The Stumptown team will play the Bawlf Blackhawks on Friday at 8 p.m. They will face Dunlop on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and then Duluth at 8:30 p.m.

The tournament will follow a round-robin format. The third-place game will take place Sunday, Feb. 8, at 9:30 a.m., and the championship game will take place at 11 a.m.
