Fond memories of Shay engine

I enjoyed your article on the Shay engine ("Shay expected to get face-lift," Nov. 26, A1). It brought back memories of my childhood. I use to play on that engine over 35 years ago. I will look forward to showing it to my son when I visit next summer. It is sad to hear of the vandalism, but do not make it inaccessible to the kids.
