Columbia Falls picked up two wins in singles matches and one in doubles in a varsity girls tennis dual Tuesday at home against Whitefish.

Gabi Stenger dominated Tava Sullivan 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles match. Natalie Law worked her way to a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Courtney Wilder in No. 3 singles.

"Natalie and Gabi are gaining confidence in singles play," C-Falls coach Jerry Smalley said.

Aysia Potter and Franki Anderson teamed for a 6-2, 6-1 win over Caroline Stokes and Hanna Weaver in No. 3 doubles.

"Aysia and Franki continue to rock," Smalley said.

Smalley also had praise for Stephanie Raymond and Shelby Hobbs, who lost to McCara Cullen and Anne Miller 7-5, 3-6, 2-6 in No. 1 doubles. The coach said Raymond and Hobbs gained some valuable court time in going three sets.

In No. 2 singles, Meredith Reed of Whitefish defeated Pepper Borland, 6-0, 6-2.

"I'm really happy with Pepper's play," Smalley said. "She stepped into a slot against a more experienced player and she played very well."

Kate Klundt of Whitefish cruised past Lydia Freeman 6-1, 6-1 in No. 1 singles.

"It's only our second match of the year. We're finding some weaknesses that we'll be spending lots of practice time correcting," Smalley said.

The Wildkats have six matches over a six-day period next week. (See the Sports Calendar for the schedule.)
