Blue Ponies leave Lady Bulldogs in the dust

The undefeated Havre Blue Ponies came to town on Saturday and took no mercy on the Lady 'Dogs, but the Whitefish girls at least got a chance to learn from a tough and talented softball team.

At Smith Fields, the Lady Bulldogs lost 5-11 and 3-13 to conference-leading Havre (5-0). The Blue Ponies out-hit Whitefish 18-11 in the first game. Havre's pitcher had a slow delivery, and it threw off the Whitefish batters who were champing at the bit a little too much.

The Lady 'Dogs (0-4) trailed 1-5 after three innings, and three runs in the sixth inning wasn't enough to overcome giving up four runs in the top of the seventh.

Leadoff hitter Adele FauntLeRoy went 2-for-4 in the first game, while pitcher Carolyn Sharpe went 2-for-3.

In the second game, Havre jumped out early, scoring six runs in the second and third innings. Madison Tveidt went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Whitefish.

The Blue Ponies took advantage of fielding errors and stole bases whenever they had a chance. They also turned singles into doubles with risky baserunning that the Whitefish girls just missed taking advantage of.

After a game in Polson on April 23, (tonight), the Whitefish girls travel to Anaconda on April 30. The JV squad looks to complete a season sweep of Columbia Falls in a double-header on April 27.
