Bond excessive

| March 7, 2008 11:00 PM

In all good faith, I cannot vote in favor of the presently proposed high school. Don't get me wrong; it is quite beautiful and expansive, amazing plans. But I have to agree with Phil Mitchell, it is excessive.

I have raised three children in Whitefish schools, and come through two of the remodels. I know the teachers, other staff and students deserve quality environments, but I believe it can be done for a great deal less money.

I am a single woman with a child about to enter college, and to tack on a $200 tax bill per year plus any other increases that are bound to happen with all the lofty plans coming down the Whitefish and county pike, I shudder.

We cannot keep doing this to the taxpayers. It is unsustainable. I am in a business where I work with many people who are in similar situations — single parents, modest incomes, uninsured or underinsured for healthcare.

We need to get a grip on this as a big reality, and making taxes and rents rise significantly in these economically uncertain times is not "community oriented." Please go back to the drawing board and think what is enough?
