Errors prove costly for Twins vs. Lakers

With temperatures soaring into the 90s, it was a rough time to play baseball on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Park.

It was especially rough for the Glacier Twins AA, who committed six errors on their way to a 17-2 pummeling at the hands of the Kalispell Lakers.

If it wasn't outfielders missing pop fly balls, then it was guys leaving their bases when they shouldn't and allowing runners to stay safe. It was just that kind of day for the Twins, who managed eight hits.

At one point, head coach Ryan Hadfield had to call the entire team to the mound to give them a verbal kick in the pants.

"We started off the game leaving some pitches in the wrong place," Hadfield said. "It just went downhill from there."

Scott Yogodzinski and his younger brother, Kyle, just couldn't figure out a way to get the ball past the Laker hitters, as runner after runner got on base.

"When one of our pitchers did pop a fly up, they just found a hole," Hadfield said. "We left a lot of pitches up in the zone, and the Lakers are a good hitting team. You aren't going to get away with that against a good hitting team."

Scott Palmer provided the lone bright spot for the Twins, blasting a solo home run in the fifth inning. The outfielder went 2-for-3 in the game.

The Lakers used 19 hits and three home runs to run up the score on the Twins, as well as making several beautiful diving catches in the outfield to frustrate Glacier batters.

Tyler Reichhoff put salt in the wound of the Twins when he belted a grand slam homer in the eighth inning.

For Glacier, Dustin VonFeldt batted 2-for-4. Scott Yogodzinski, Bridger Beach, Ryan Caron and Kyle Yogodzinski each had a hit.

The Twins are currently on a road trip for the Seattle Wood Bat Tourney. They will host the Sapa-Johnsrud Tournament from July 8-12.
