Nelson named coach of year

Whitefish High School golf coach Terry Nelson was recently selected Coach of the Year for Class A girls golf by the Montana Coaches Association.

Nelson has headed up the Bulldogs girls and boys golf programs for the past 23 years. In April last year, he was inaugurated into the Montana Coaches Association's Hall of Fame.

Under Nelson, the Whitefish girls have won 21 divisional titles and 14 state titles, including 2007, with five in a row from 1986 through 1990 and seven in a row from 1993 through 1999.

The boys have won 23 divisional titles and six state titles under Nelson, including three in a row from 2004-2006.

Nelson has been named the MCA's boys or girls coach of the year and the regional coach of the year numerous times. He was named the National Golf Coach of the Year in 2006 and was recognized by Golf Digest magazine with a Youth Development National Award in 2007.
