Robert Sandquist

Robert C Sandquist, 88, a Merchant Marines captain, died Nov. 17, 2008, in Yuma, Ariz. He was born Sept. 16, 1920, in Chicago, Ill.

Robert was a World War II (U.S. Navy) veteran, after which he enjoyed his 35-year sailing career with the Military Sealift Command-Pacific, sailing on U.S. Naval (troop and military transport) ships all through both Korean and Vietnam wars. He obtained his rank as Ship Master in 1956 and continued to sail (Special Assignments) U.S.

Naval ships for the MSTWS-PAC out of Honolulu, Hawaii, where the family lived for three years, and the Bay Area of San Francisco, until his retirement in 1988.

In his retirement years, Robert lived in Montana enjoying his summer home and his good friends in Hungry Horse, and spending each winter at his second home in Yuma, Ariz. He is with the Lord now, God bless his Soul. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Robert is survived by his loving family: Marina Sandquist-Gabus; son Dale Sandquist; daughter Alida and son-in-law Sej Butler; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
