On Friday and Saturday, the Bulldogs traveled to Eureka to take part in the Buzz Lucey Memorial Tournament. Out of 11 teams, the Whitefish grapplers finished a respectable fifth with a total of 94 points.

Zach Berger (119 pounds) won the championship in his weight class with an 8-5 decision over Eric Roe, of Eureka. Dalton Rice (130 pounds) won the championship round in his weight class with a pin over Dyllon Price of Eureka in 1:16.

Flathead won the tournament with 220.5 points, while Columbia Falls finished second with 177. Glacier finished third and Polson finished fourth.

Kaleb Prestegaard (152 pounds) won his class with a 10-7 decision victory over Joe Gross of Columbia Falls.

Derek Crittenden (215 pounds) was pinned by Kodie Kenfield of Columbia Falls in 2:59. Jonathan Reimer (119 pounds) was pinned by Adam Richardson of Columbia Falls in 1:43.

The Whitefish wrestling squad battled top-ranked Ronan on the road last Thursday, falling 60-12. The Chiefs are ranked second in the state in the preseason Class A coaches polls.

Only seven weight classes were contested in the Northwestern A dual match, and Ronan won them all by pins.

There were eight forfeits, with neither team fielding a wrestler at 98 and 135 pounds. Ronan is still undefeated on the season.

The Whitefish grapplers resume action on Jan. 2 on the road in Polson.
