Carlson places 13th at state

With a large number of runners competing at the State Class A Cross Country Meet, the seven Bigfork runners had work hard to earn their finishes.

Kayla Carlson got a little off track during the meet at Helena's Bill Roberts Golf Course, as did a number of other runners, but they were able to find their way back onto the course and still finish with good times. Calrson's time of 20:03 put her in 13th place.

"She ran real well. She's had an awesome season," Bigfork coach Sue Loeffler said of Carlson. "There was a tricky part on the course, she went off and had to come back. I'm proud of her. It's pretty devastating to realize that you went off the course."

Charlie Edwards and Shelby Deaton placed 41st and 119th respectively. Edwards finished in a time of 21:19. Deaton clocked a time of 24:15.

Phil Sandry narrowly beat out fellow Bigfork runner Bridger Mahlum. Sandry placed 57th with 18:30. Mahlum was two seconds after Sandry, but placed 64th due to the large number of runners finishing at that time.

"It got kind of ugly at the end," Loeffler said. "It was really crowded and there was some pushing."

Evan Jordt finished in 18:59 for 80th place, while Keenan Evans was 105th in 20:35.
