Bigfork Elementary School counselor Susan Sherman named the school's October Peacemakers last week, highlighting students and staff who have shown uncommon kindness or character.

Sherman started the awards this year — her first at the school — to draw attention to the things people do when they don't think anyone is watching. Anyone can be nominated for an award, and nominees are selected through an anonymous ballot in the main office.

"We're just trying to recognize the positive things people do around the school." she said.

Sherman said people get nominated for everything from helping an injured friend in from the playground to standing up to a bully and that recipients of the award all receive a small treat as a reward.

This month four adults were also chosen for the award: Terry Gross, Susan Parks, Rita Hall and Dan Mostellar. The student winners were: Kalia Wicklund, Brenden Wild, Malachi Bond, Seth Williamson, Grant Gibson, Alyssa Beach-Wallen, Brandon Engebretson, Hannah Anderson, Kallister Meagher, Mattison McAnally, Cody Neese, Brooke Bonner, Jacob Haberlock, Shane Rieke, Rieve Fredricks and Bixby Boss.
