A gleaming gold-colored trophy was the Glacier Twin's prize for winning the seventh annual Wood Bat Tournament at Memorial Field.

The players raised the trophy overhead for fans to see after they defeated the Kalispell Lakers 4-3 in the hard-fought American Legion AA game Monday.

But victory wasn't apparent at first. The Lakers led 1-0 for the first six innings of the championship game, but the Twins tied the game in the seventh.

The Lakers scored two more runs in the top of the eighth, and the Twins scored two runs of their own in the bottom to tie the game again.

Michael Hader then hit a single and stole second. Roo Grubb stepped up to the plate, singled and drove Hader home for the winning run.

"What a baseball game," coach Jarod Grubb said of Monday's thriller. "Roo was clutch for us, and Michael Hader had a big hit, Rusty Hill had some big hits."

Scott Yogodzinski, Wes Beougher, Scott Palmer and Justin Collom manned the pitching mount this week.

"They all pitched well," Grubb said.

The Twins went 3-1 in the tournament overall. They defeated the Lakers on Friday by forfeit, 5-5, after two Kalispell players were ejected. Glacier defeated Trail, B.C., 3-2 on Saturday and the Twins lost to Cranbrook, B.C., 6-9, on Sunday.

Last Wednesday, the Twins lost their first conference game to the Lakers, 4-6. Only six innings were completed before rain ended the game.

The Twins are now 15-8 (0-1). They played their second conference game against the Lakers on Wednesday, but results were not available at presstime.
