Ferdas take firsts at track, Rogers sets record in pole vault

The girls track and field team earned second place, and the boys finished sixth at the Class A state track meet at Missoula County Stadium this week.

The Ferda girls stood out with first-place performances. Ashley Ferda flew to a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.54 seconds, and cousin Courtney Ferda took first in the 200-meter dash in 25.72.

For the boys, Cort Rogers vaulted into the history books when he rose to a height of 15-6 in the pole vault competition, breaking the old class A state record of 15-4.

The old record was set by Belgrade's Otto Sanjder in 1997, according to montanatrack.com.

Overall, the girls totaled 61 points. Belgrade racked up 78 points to take first. The boys team earned 36 points. Libby took first place for the boys with 61.

Other Bulldogs who placed include:

Courtney Ferda took third in the 100 meter dash in 12.80. She also placed second in the 300 meter hurdles in 45.20.

The girls relay team placed second in the 400 meter relay in 49.79.

Breanna Cameron placed sixth in triple jump.

The girls 1,600 meter relay team placed fifth in 4:07.66.

Cort Rogers placed fifth in the 110 meter hurdles in 15.37.

The boys 400 meter relay team placed second in 44.39.
